» Fundamentals of FPSOs

Across the world, oil and gas production faces problems such as fields in ever-deeper water depths and very small reserves which are uneconomic to exploit by conventional fixed platform approaches. Field size and location, water depth, ocean currents and harsh weather may all influence the decision of which type of production installation to use. A fixed installation may not be technically feasible in particularly challenging locations where a floating unit would offer the best solution.

The offshore oil and gas industry has been using floating production, storage and offloading system, or FPSOs, since the mid 1970s. These facilities can offer significant advantages over fixed production platforms particularly in remote deepwater locations or where export pipelines are difficult to install or uneconomic to run. They can also be floated off at the end of a field’s productive life and re-used elsewhere, which has economic benefits, particularly for marginal fields where the production facilities may only be required for a few years.

This distance learning course examines the key components of FPSO technology and deployment, including FPSO design, systems development, subsea engineering, operations and economics for the development and management of FPSOs.

Offering the flexibility of studying in your own time and location, this programme will benefit a broad range of people. If you are starting in a new role, this course will provide a comprehensive introduction to FPSO design and function. For those who work in a different part of the oil and gas industry it will provide a deeper understanding of the part played by FPSOs. Professionals in associated industries such as consultants, lawyers, bankers and accountants will gain an insight into the complexities of this increasingly crucial method of oil and gas production.

Whatever your motivation, the unique blend of downloadable and multimedia learning materials, expert tutorial support and peer interaction via a dedicated online forum will ensure a thorough, accurate and up-to-date knowledge of FPSO technology fundamentals, wherever you are in the world.

» Great IT minds thinking alike at Capita Financial Group

Answer appointed to unlock knowledge for cost and process efficiencies

Capita Financial Group has appointed technology strategists Answer Consulting to spearhead a structured knowledge transfer programme for its IT team.  The anticipated benefits of the Mindswap® programme are to reduce the business risk, realise cost efficiencies by managing down contractors and provide further motivation to the in-house teams through improved learning.

Through a series of workshop sessions over nine months, members of the Capita Financial Group IT team will ‘mind-swap’ to extract and share critical understanding.  The process, recognised by the Institute of IT Training for the way it addresses business risk and competitive agility, will also ensure that new team members are fully immersed in departmental know-how to maximise value.  Mindswap will also help Capita Financial Group reduce the use of contract staff realising cost efficiencies.

“The process of mind-swapping seems obvious to ensure knowledge is shared, but busy teams and post merger organisations often need a fresh pair of eyes to steer them,” states Lindy Wainwright, Programme Manager for Knowledge Transfer and Principal Consultant at Answer Consulting.  “Mindswap was founded in IT and formalises an active learning approach building technical and system knowledge without adding workload to in-house experts.  With structured learning and a specialist knowledge transfer programme in place, a more confident team can be built to support business objectives.”

A by-product of the Mindswap programme will be the creation of a knowledge repository that will provide an ongoing reference point for future incident resolution or for new joiner induction.

» Fundamentals of Exploration and Production Logistics
The oil and gas industry operates in just about every imaginable geographic and climatic region across the world, including some of the most extreme conditions known. Wherever operations are taking place they are dependent upon a complex network of transport and supply in order to deliver the people, materials and equipment where they are needed, when they are needed.
» Fundamentals of Container Shipping
Container shipping is a crucial component of global maritime transport, carrying about 60% of seaborne trade by value each year. Over 6,000 container ships provide services on regular routes with fixed schedules to carry international trade. The industry is part of the logistics supply chain transporting goods in containers, with extensive linkages to ports and inland distribution services. In little over 50 years container shipping has revolutionised the carriage of manufactured and semi-manufactured goods and been the enabler of globalisation.
